Report of Presbytery Sunday Activities
Presbytery Sunday this year was 18 September. Ministers from the Presbytery of Dumfries and Kirkcudbright swapped pulpits for morning worship. The benefits of this are that ministers have the opportunity to visit other churches, to meet new folk within the Presbytery, and "to see how the other half lives!" In the evening there was - as always - a Songs of Praise in the Moderator's Church followed by the Moderator's reception.
This year the Songs of Praise was held in Sanquhar: St. Bride's Church. The Rev. BillHogg took "Pilgrimage" but with Sanquhar connections, as his theme for the evening. This included a reading from Luke Ch.10 which had been translated into Scots by William Lorimer, whose ashes are buried in Sanquhar cemetery. There was a reflection on Sanquhar Riding of the Marches. A second reflection told of Matatiele Orphanage in South Africa which is supported by the Church and community of Sanquhar. The music inspired the congregation to join together in praise and to be part of the worship as it resounded from the high ceiling of the old church, with its stone walls and stained glass windows.
